Former Surfer Magazine Art Director Matthew Allen is a multidisciplinary artist from Southern California. He draws inspiration from the natural world, vintage ephemera, and the imperfection of hand made things. A surfer himself, Matthew is passionate about the magic of connecting with the energy of a wave that has traveled thousands of miles to meet him. As a result, much of Matthew's fine art and photography explores aspects of the ocean, and surf culture. He works in a variety of mediums including Polaroid emulsion lifts, pen and ink, pencil, linocut prints, acrylic paint, and watercolors. Matthew is a conceptual artist at heart, with the style and medium in which he works often dictated by the concept or feeling that he wishes to express.
