What is Thalassa’s mission?
Thalassa believes that art and the ocean are powerful sources of healing, connection, and inspiration. Thalassa is committed to introducing emerging and mid-career artists to collectors while cultivating a space for conversation and community. Through exhibitions and programming, Thalassa celebrates the sea as muse and seeks to bring more joy, balance, and beauty to everyday life through meaningful encounters with original art.
What’s the story behind Thalassa?
Thalassa began in 2021, inspired by Mary Booras’s love of the ocean, nature, art, and beautifully designed goods. The name Thalassa, the Greek goddess of the sea, was chosen as a nod to her Greek-American roots. What started as a curated online shop, with pop-ups at Boston-area markets and venues including the ICA Boston and Boston Women’s Market, is now relaunching as an art gallery in the historic art colony of Rockport, Massachusetts. Rooted in Mary’s lifelong connection to the coast, Thalassa remains a love letter to the sea.
